CUPE 1748 is part of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Canada’s largest union with over 700,000 members across Canada. CUPE 1748 members are healthcare workers located at the Long Term Care Facility of Golden Plough in the County of Northumberland.
The members of CUPE Local 1748 provide all aspects of care and services to ensure our residents needs are met. We have over 170 members employed in 8 classifications.
We represent:
- Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), whose roles and responsibilities are met according to the College of Nurses and the home. RPNs provide the administration of medication, treatments, wound care, documentation, end of life care and hands on front line care in general.
- Personal Support Workers (PSWs) who provide hands on front line personal care to all our residents including meeting all ADL needs. They provide emotion, physical and mental support. They assist in maintaining safe, clean and positive home environments.
- Environmental Service workers in laundry and housekeeping who ensure the home is properly cleaned and linen and clothing provided.
- Maintenance is tasked with keeping the home maintained and in good working order so that our residents feel safe and secure.
- Nutrition/Dietary Services staff prepare and deliver meals to ensure the nutritional needs of our residents are met, while ensuring proper diet restrictions are adhered to.
- Life Enrichment Aides develop, organize and perform social activities to meet the emotional, spiritual and recreational needs of our residents to prevent boredom and loneliness.
Each member of CUPE has an important and necessary role which is necessary to ensure all the needs of our residents have been met and to create a warm and friendly client experience.
